Mikita Brottman has a PhD in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. She is a widely-published author and certified psychoanalyst. Her work investigates the intersection of crime and psychology, and she has a special interest in gothic and uncanny literature. She teaches courses on Edgar Allan Poe, The Uncanny, Personal and Abnormal Psychology, and Authors in Context, among others.
Mikita has published books and articles on literature, psychoanalysis, film, and critical theory. Most recently, she has been working in the nonfiction genre, specializing in literary true crime. An Unexplained Death (2019) was shortlisted by the Crime Writers’ Association of the U.K. for the Golden Dagger award. Her most recent book, Guilty Creatures (2024) was described by the New York Times: as “A nonfiction noir that combines propulsive true crime with stylish writing… an unputdownable read.”
