Baltimore, MD — The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Pre-College Summer Intensive Program. Designed for students ages 15–17, the program offers a rigorous, college-level experience that supports creative growth, portfolio development, and preparation for undergraduate study in art and design. The application deadline is April 30

The Pre-College Summer Intensive helps participants make the leap from high school art students to thinking like artists. Over the summer, students will engage in a college-level academic experience that strengthens their readiness for critique, studio practice, and future college study. They will also develop new technical and conceptual skills, and build a stronger portfolio while immersed in MICA’s studio culture.

Students may choose between the commuter option or a residential experience on campus in Baltimore’s historic Bolton Hill neighborhood. Both pathways provide access to MICA’s professional facilities, dedicated studio spaces, and experienced faculty who blend active creative practice with supportive teaching.

Summer 2026 Dates and Course Offerings

  • Session 1: July 13–24: includes courses such as 2D Digital Animation, Darkroom Film Photography, Drawing the Figure, Graphic Design, Illustration, Product Design and Innovation, Studio Exploration, and Textile and Fashion Fundamentals

  • Session 2: July 27–August 7: features 3D Animation, Ceramics, Digital Photography, Game Development and Design, Interdisciplinary Art, Painting the Figure, Screen Printing and Design, and Studio Exploration

Many alumni cite Pre-College as foundational in helping them prepare for college coursework and feel confident in their creative voice.
