The things we experience throughout our lives shape the way in which we view and interpret the world around us. Our backgrounds, from culture to individual circumstances, mold our perspective.
And because the visual arts are a powerful tool for self-expression, artists and designers make work that is deeply rooted in their lived experiences. In sharing their histories — and their perspectives — creatives in turn expand the perspectives of others. They allow their audiences to see the world through new eyes, which can broaden emotions, challenge perceptions, and ultimately provoke change.
Following are members of MICA’s creative community whose work has been shaped by their unique perspectives — and who, through their authentic celebration of self through artmaking, demonstrate creativity as a transformative force in society.
