MICA February 2024

Love Affair

Phaan Howng ’15 (Mount Royal School of Art MFA)

At MICA, we are all the "art kid." We make, because we must. Because we have an innate desire to create, to put our ideas into visual form. Art is our voice. It is our passion.

And though art is inherently personal to each of us, it is also a form of communication which must be shared. In showing our work, or in talking about it with others, we convey our viewpoints, educate, and inspire. We also engage in critique, which means we grow, forming new ideas that we are driven to pursue with the same fervor as before. Read more to learn how the MICA community is engaging in this cycle of creation. How in sharing their work, our students, faculty, and alumni engage in the communication of creativity—all the while following their unique passions, and demonstrating the power of visual expression and the fundamental role art and design plays in society.
