MICA is proud to announce the launch of the public phase of the strategic fundraising campaign, reflecting the enduring value of a MICA education and strong commitment in building a stronger future. The campaign goal is to sustain MICA’s reputation as a top 10 college in art and design education, while expanding creative impact in Baltimore and beyond. Funding raised will focus on these key areas: scholarship, wellness, and equity; faculty and programs; community; facilities; and unrestricted annual fund.
Established by the Board of Trustees in 2021, the campaign sets an ambitious goal to raise $125 million by 2028. To date, MICA has secured $96.1 million.
“The MICA Bicentennial is a moment to invite our community to share in an exciting vision for the future,” said President Cecilia M. McCormick. “We will focus on growing scholarships to attract talented students, investing in world-class facilities and faculty, and innovating with bold, new academic programs.”
During this campaign, the College has raised more than $24 million for Scholarships, Wellness, and Equity, and more than $30 million for Faculty and Programs. Among these contributions include transformative gifts from the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation, $5 million towards scholarships, as well as nearly $2 million in commitments to the College’s groundbreaking Biodesign Program, an initiative that reflects MICA’s forward-thinking approach to interdisciplinary education.
Fredye Gross P’16, chair of the Board of Trustees Advancement Committee, echoed President McCormick’s perspective on the importance of reaching these campaign goals. “I look at this not only as a longstanding trustee, but also as a parent of an alumna. Expanding these areas are critical for continuing our work to expand upon our work as a premier arts and design institution for artists and designers from across the world.
Jim Burger ‘82, has excitement for the ways the Strategic Campaign will shape MICA’s future. “I have been passionate about MICA from the day I took my first class. My volunteer work with MICA has been rewarding, giving me a front row seat to all this happening. I know that the planning and investments today will strengthen MICA for the future.
As a defining advocate of the new campaign, Jeff Bunting, chair of the Board of Trustees, says, “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed thus far. It is truly inspiring to see how valued MICA is to so many people from across the world. I know, through our collective efforts, MICA will continue being a college of artistry, creativity, and innovation for the next century.”
