May 24 Campus Memo

Details around the Summer 2021 Social Agreement

May 24, 2021

Hello Faculty and Staff Colleagues,

Congratulations on completing this past spring semester, and a special note of thanks to everyone involved in the planning for this past weekend's Commencement ceremony. It was wonderful to celebrate together the extraordinary success of our graduating class of 2021!

For the summer months of June and July MICA will remain in a modified form of Operational Mode 3. As a result, it is expected that the overall campus density will remain low, and individuals should only be accessing campus if they have specific need for in-person engagement or access to facilities. While the overall trends of vaccination and virus prevalence are excellent, it is critical that we remain vigilant and continue to work as a community to protect the public health of all members. The extraordinary numbers in MICA’s spring asymptomatic testing program — we ended with six straight weeks of zero positive tests — demonstrated that everyone is doing their part, for which I am extremely grateful.

In order to remain current with MICA’s evolving operations the Social Agreement has been updated for the summer. Those wishing to access the physical campus will continue to need to have a signed copy of the Social Agreement on file. Depending upon whether or not an individual was already accessing campus this past spring, that means one of two scenarios:

  • Individuals who already have a signed Social Agreement on file from the spring and ended the semester in compliance with the asymptomatic COVID-19 testing program will not need to sign and return the modified summer version. The updated version only has minimal changes, but individuals in this category will be expected to review the summer version (attached) and continue to comply with the expectations of the Social Agreement.
    1. Individuals with a signed Social Agreement from the spring but who ended the semester out of compliance with the testing program will need to proactively ask for their ID to be reactivated. Please email studentaffairs@mica.edu.
  • Individuals who do not have a signed Social Agreement on file and need to begin accessing the campus this summer will need to sign and return the updated Social Agreement before coming to campus. Individuals in this category should email the Office of Student Affairs (studentaffairs@mica.edu) and a signable version of the Social Agreement will be sent. Please plan your initial visit in advance, as it will not be possible to send the Social Agreement, confirm receipt of signature, and activate an ID on the same day.

I thank you in advance for your continued commitment to the health of the entire community. If you have any questions please send them to studentaffairs@mica.edu.

Best,

Mike
