May 14 Campus Memo

Updated outdoor masking policy.

May 14, 2021

Dear MICA Community,

Thank you so much for your support and vigilance around the public health and safety protocols, and especially to our valued frontline staff who have worked on campus throughout the pandemic.

The State of Maryland and Baltimore City have lifted the requirement to wear a mask outdoors.  Based on that and confirmation from MICA’s consulting epidemiologists, effective immediately, masks will no longer be required when outside on the MICA campus. We will be adjusting our Operational Mode 3 guidance to reflect this change.

Please note that while the state and city have lifted the outdoor mask requirement for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, the CDC and the Governor recommend that unvaccinated individuals should continue to wear masks outdoors (and indoors as well).

We strongly encourage all MICA community members to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for personal and public health purposes.  The CDC guidance is an indication that some public health and safety measures will be lifted for vaccinated individuals only as we continue to navigate through the pandemic. MICA will continue to monitor CDC, State and City guidance and requirements to protect and safeguard our community.

Very best,

Doug
