March 5 Campus Memo

Details information about COVID-19 vaccine partner working with MICA.

March 5, 2021

In January, MICA shared that the College was working to find a medical provider to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to our campus community, similar to our practice of bringing flu shots to campus each year.

We are very pleased to announce that a clinical provider in Baltimore has agreed to support MICA in vaccine administration and are very grateful for their assistance. Due to overwhelming community demand, the provider asked not to be named by MICA in this public announcement.

It is important to acknowledge that while the search was underway, our creative, resourceful, and determined faculty and staff members have been actively supporting each other in the search for vaccinations, resulting in a good number of successes. Their efforts speak to the mutual care and camaraderie of the MICA community.

The clinical provider has reserved for MICA an initial supply of vaccine with enough doses to vaccinate three groups of MICA employees: 1) A group of faculty who have been on campus and interacting with students; 2)  Frontline staff members who qualified to receive the one-time $1,000 stipend, as announced in the February 18 memo; and 3) Student employees who are working on campus during the spring semester.

Shots are being given today and MICA is providing shuttle transportation to and from the medical facility. Yesterday, our HR team and supervisors rallied to contact over 170 faculty, staff and students about their vaccination appointments—many thanks for their great work!  Not all the spots were claimed, and we were able to extend a small number of back-up invitations.

The same clinical provider has generously indicated that when their allocation increases and the state moves into Phases 2 and 3 of the vaccination plan, they will administer the vaccine to the remainder of MICA employees. We will continue to share information and updates regarding the timeline as we learn more.

While our goal is to ultimately provide vaccines to all of our interested employees, vaccine supplies are still constrained. We continue to encourage you to check local providers throughout the state to obtain a vaccine. You can learn more about current providers here.

Additionally, much of this information is being shared on the oneMICA Slack channel. We encourage you to join that channel as another source of vaccine information and resources.

Thank you for your continued hard work and vigilance in keeping our campus a healthy, safe, and supportive one.
