Lauren Jackson is a visual artist and art educator whose teaching centers on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and authentic self-expression through meaningful artistic experiences. She earned both her BFA in Printmaking with concentrations in Graphic Design and Book Arts (‘20) and her Master of Arts in Teaching (‘22) from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).
Lauren has taught secondary visual arts in Baltimore City Public Schools for five years, where she teaches Fundamentals of Art, Drawing and Painting, AP 2D Art & Design, and AP Drawing. Her teaching emphasizes the development of technical skills, creative problem-solving, and student-centered learning while encouraging students to cultivate their artistic voice. She is passionate about preparing future art educators to create relevant, equitable, and engaging classrooms.
As a practicing printmaker and paper artist, Lauren’s work has been exhibited and recognized nationally and explores themes of identity, memory, and human experience through printmaking, artist books, and paper-based media. Her contributions to art education have been recognized with the Maryland Art Education Association’s Pre-Service Art Educator of the Year Award (2022) and Change Agent of the Year Award (2024), as well as Baltimore City Public Schools’ Early Career Art Educator of the Year Award (2023).
Lauren is excited to support emerging art educators as they develop their own teaching philosophies and enter the profession with confidence, creativity, and a commitment to equitable arts education.
