June 22 Student Memo

Information about retrieving belongings left in studios for undergraduate students.

June 22

Dear Undergraduate Students,

This is directed to those of you who had to leave work in place when departing from campus in March. It is more specifically focused for those of you who utilized independent studio spaces during the spring 2020 semester, though it may be relevant for some who stored work in other campus studios and shops.

We have identified a tentative timeline for retrieval of your belongings based upon evolving local and current campus conditions:

  • June 19, 2020—notification of specific dates and process for retrieval of belongings

  • June 26, 2020—completion deadline for the RSVP form linked below

  • June 29, 2020—email sent with schedule confirmation

  •  July 6th, 7th, 8th—Studio spaces will be accessible for students to pack and retrieve belongings at prescribed times;

    • Buildings will be accessible one at a time (e.g.—Lazarus 7/6, Station 7/7, Fox 7/8) based on staffing availability and physical distancing requirements. Students will need to wear face coverings and maintain a 6’ physical distance while on the MICA campus.

    • DR/GFA and PT Junior Independent students who were assigned Lazarus studios belongings can access their studios during this time as well.

    • Please complete this survey to help plan the timing by 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26th: UG Studio Belonging Retrieval

  • For seniors who will not be able to retrieve belongings during the prescribed period, belongings will be packed and stored:

    • We are still working with campus offices to clarify how this will work.

      • Please complete the UG Studio Belonging Retrieval form and indicate information as appropriate.

      • Class of 2020 graduates will need to request an additional form indicating their intention to have work and belongings remain at MICA and agreement to specified conditions. This form will be sent to students who indicate that they will not be able to return to campus on July 6/7/8th.

      • December 2020 Graduates and DR/GFA and PT Junior Independent students who cannot return to campus will have their belongings stored in place on Lazarus 2nd/3rd floors so that they can be accessed after a return to campus for their Senior Thesis program.

  • For students who need to access your belongings prior to the July 6/7/8th  time period—please get in touch with your Chair or Senior Thesis/Junior Independent faculty member. They will be able to make arrangements to facilitate individual requests with Campus Safety.

We know that this may not answer all of your questions, but we wanted to provide some information in the interim and greatly appreciate your patience as we work to complete our preparations.
