Julie Dietrich-Eisler '91

Part-Time Faculty / Master of Arts in Teaching

Dr. Julie Dietrich-Eisler is an art teacher, writer, and painter. She has been making and teaching art in Baltimore for over twenty years. Dr. Eisler received her undergraduate degree from the Maryland Institute of Art, her Master of Teaching Art from Towson University. She received a Doctorate at Notre Dame University in the “Leadership for Changing Populations” program, where she completed her dissertation on “The History of Racial and Gender Desegregation of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.” Dr. Eisler is a member of the Baltimore Plein Air Group and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters. Julie has exhibited regularly in the Baltimore Metropolitan area in galleries such as The Owl, Crystal Moll, and Luann Carra Gallery. Julie has also exhibited installations in the Enoch Pratt Central Branch Library. Dr. Eisler has presented lectures and workshops at the Maryland Arts Council Conference, the National Art Education Association National Conference, and the Southern History of Education Society.

Letting Go of the States; This is a painting in which I am grappling with the sense that there is an erosion of democracy. However, time is the greatest equalizer which leads to the same outcome for all living creatures, death but also rebirth. The conclusion made is that even the ugliest aspect of this process ought to be noticed and even there, joy is the greatest protest. + Enlarge
