Brooklyn-based artist Fabienne Lasserre grew up in Montreal, Québec. A 2019 Guggenheim Fellow, she has exhibited her work consistently in Canada, the US, and internationally. Her solo exhibition "Listeners" (The Athenaeum, Athens, GA; 2024) received support from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. Lasserre’s work hovers around, across, beyond, and beside painting and sculpture, attending to the act of looking as simultaneously bodily, distracted, vulnerable, and assertive. She engages abstraction as a locus for political metaphors and as means to privilege lived and felt experience, presenting pleasure as intrinsic to knowledge and understanding.
