Catherine Khamnouane is a Baltimore-based interdisciplinary artist, educator, and researcher. She received a BFA from MICA's Interdisciplinary Sculpture program in 2018 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art at Towson University.
Informed by a professional background in high-end furniture fabrication, her practice is based in traditional craft processes such as woodcarving, metalsmithing, and natural dyeing. Her work engages with the poetic quality of these materials, using their relationships to contend with historical geopolitical conflicts, her family's migration story, and our shared, uncertain future.
Khamnouane has exhibited and lectured locally and regionally. Whenever possible, she extends her practices into the broader community by teaching regularly at the Station North Tool Library and working with various groups that address food sovereignty in Baltimore.
