Building the Future of the Creative Economy

For generations, MICA has prepared artists and designers to shape culture and industry. Today, through the School of Creative and Professional Studies (SCPS), the college is expanding that mission in new ways, creating pathways for working professionals, career changers, and lifelong learners to engage with the creative economy.

Evolving from MICA’s former Open Studies division, SCPS brings together professional education, online graduate programs, workforce partnerships, and entrepreneurial initiatives under a more focused vision now known as MICA Pro. Leaders across the institution describe the shift as a strategic investment in how creative education can respond to a rapidly changing world. One of SCPS’s most visible initiatives is MICA Professional Studio, flexible, career-focused courses in areas including branding, entrepreneurship, UX design, and emerging technologies. Many of these offerings allow learners to move between short-form training and advanced study.

SCPS also offers fully online Master of Professional Studies (MPS) programs, designed for working professionals, blending creative practice with leadership, business strategy, and technology. An online Master of Arts in Graphic Design will also launch this fall semester, complementing the MPS programs and the MA/MBA Design Leadership program with Johns Hopkins University.
