Andrea Sherrill Evans (she/her) is an Arizona-born, Baltimore-based artist and educator whose work explores interconnection and resilience within the natural world. Interweaving ideas and materiality, she makes drawings that explore ecological systems, seasonal cycles, and changing landscapes. Evans has a long-standing interest in historical drawing mediums and processes, which guides her use of materials ranging from silverpoint and watercolor to handmade inks, charcoal, and paper. In her recent work, she utilizes botanical materials carefully foraged in local and visited environments to fabricate drawing mediums and substrates that carry a specificity of time and place.
Evans received her BFA from Arizona State University and MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston / Tufts University. Her work has been exhibited at IA&A at Hillyer (Washington, DC), VisArts (Rockville, MD), C. Grimaldis Gallery (Baltimore, MD), Mother-in-Law’s (Germantown, NY), Tiger Strikes Asteroid (Brooklyn, NY), Montserrat College of Art (Beverly, MA), and phICA (Phoenix, AZ), among others. Evans has been awarded residencies at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and The Studios at MASS MoCA, and was a Denbo Fellow in Papermaking at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center. She is a recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, the Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship in Drawing, and the St. Botolph Club Foundation Emerging Artist Award. In 2024 and 2025, she was a finalist for the Baker Artist Award. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and BMoreArt. Evans has been full-time faculty at MICA since 2015.
