Parent & Family Weekend

Parent & Family Weekend is a wonderful opportunity to bring families of students to MICA to learn more about the MICA experience.

Families are welcome to take part in classes, meet faculty and staff, visit departments, learn about careers in the arts, see student artwork, and learn more about their student's experience at MICA. This year, Parent & Family Weekend will take place on October 19 - 21, 2018. Families will receive an informational mailing with full details later in the summer.

Check in and receive the Parent & Family Weekend schedule of events!

Classroom Visits
Tour the campus, visit the MICA Store, or attend one of our recommended classes.

9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Student Accounts
Representatives from Student Accounts will be available to answer your questions.

3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Undergraduate Studies Welcome
Meet representatives and ask questions about MICA

4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
MICA Shuttle to Hampden
Free shuttle to Hampden, where you can find retail shops and restaurants.

5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Gallery Exhibitions & Openings

This year’s keynote welcome address focuses a on this charge by discussing the importance of civic engagement at MICA and throughout the Baltimore Community.

Learn more about MICA's unique first-year program

Art of the Critique
An opportunity to discuss the critique process and give you a taste of what your student experiences.

Finishing Strong, Moving On: Making the Most of Your Student’s Jr. and Sr. Year
This session is focused on helping parents of MICA students prepare for their Junior and Senior year.

Fall Festival, Brunch, & Campus Resources
Join us for our Parent & Family Weekend Fall Festival! We will have various fun activities as well also getting an opportunity to speak with various campus resources.

Stop in for games and activities as you check out the brand-new MICA store

Department Visits, Tour Campus Art Galleries
Your opportunity to meet faculty and student representatives from departments your student is majoring in – or still considering a major with.

WORKSHOPS (choose one to attend)

Parent’s Guide to Professional Development
The Career Development Staff and a panel of students will share their insights about being a helpful ally to your emerging artist or designer as they develop their goals for the future.

Drawing Workshop
Parents and families will undertake simple exercises in seeing and forming, which will provide them with a glimpse of this fundamental art form. Supplies will be provided.

Study Abroad Expo
Learn about many short-term and long-term study abroad opportunities available to MICA students.

5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
World Wise: Study Abroad Reception
This exhibition will feature MICA students who participated in the 2018 Summer Travel Intensive Programs and students who studied abroad during 2018.

5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy the evening with your student
Take advantage of the many wonderful restaurants and attractions in Baltimore.

FREE Shuttle to Baltimore Farmer’s Market and Bazaar
Stroll through Maryland's largest producers-only market.

11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
FREE Historic Tour of Baltimore
Hop on a bus with Baltimore Heritage to explore a mix of some of Baltimore's most well-known historic spots, along with some hidden gems.

1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
FREE MICA Shuttle to Fells Point
Travel to one of Baltimore’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods.
