Sophomore Interdisciplinary Sculpture Major

Parade

Sam Zanowski is an artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who works across different mediums. He is a sophomore interdisciplinary sculpture major with an illustration concentration. Through the use of satire, heavy stylization and fabrication of original objects, his work explores the elements of contemporary existence and it's absurdities.

Parade considers the dangers of nationalism and celebration without critique within America. A common place we celebrate and can perpetuate dangerous nationalism is the tradition of Fourth of July parades. Using the structure of these parades, Parade will present American institutions and structures for critique. Each look is a stylized representation of an aspect of America that is often celebrated blindly or used to maintain nationalism. Parade aims to be a catalyst for active critique, highlighting harmful yet established power structures in order to actively end and ultimately rehabilitate them.
