The student profile for this program is a rising MICA junior or a senior undergraduate or a graduate student with passion, curiosity, and dedication to type design, whether through design + innovation, graphic design, or illustration as a practice. Students committed to bringing their whole selves to experimentation in type design and/or handlettering will have a two week immersion experience with the WeType founders, John Kudos and David Jon Walker. WeType is a type foundry that brings together East and West in a culturally nuanced opportunity to explore the possible futures this re-centered design brings. Together with John and David, this MICA in Manhattan cohort will explore New York City, connect with premier designers, experience various firm environments, and hunker down in studio space ultimately to create a unique font that will represent their current creative expression.
