Benefits to Studying Abroad

Studying abroad offers numerous academic, personal, and professional benefits for artists and designers. As emerging practitioners, MICA students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in new cultures, develop a global perspective, and expand their understanding of art and design. Gaining critical thinking skills and adapting to new concepts and lifestyles adds significant depth to the MICA educational experience. Additionally, forming international connections and friendships can lead to exciting career opportunities and create lasting professional relationships and networks. MICA is widely recognized for administering an impressive selection of semester and summer study abroad and exchange opportunities - a reflection of our firm commitment to educating artists and designers who wish to gain a global perspective to influence their practice.   Studying abroad positively impacts the whole person - as an artist, you explore new perspectives to inform your artistic direction; as a person, you gain insight into what it means to be a global citizen.

The Office of International Education (OIE) is your dedicated partner in your study abroad journey. We manage study abroad and exchange programs in various countries and off-campus study opportunities in the United States through our partnership with the  Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD)  consortium. We offer comprehensive study abroad advising, information sessions and workshops hosted by experts in education abroad,  and logistical advice and support throughout every student's off-campus or international experience. We work closely with various student service offices on MICA's campus to ensure a smooth process so you and your parents can feel confident and supported in understanding how academics, financial aid, and others apply to your overall experience.
