About Taylor

Taylor McMahonTaylor McMahon is from Staten Island, New York. She will graduate in May from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Fiber and a concentration in Experimental Fashion. Her work encompasses both fashion and sculpture.

About Catcall

Taylor McMahon’s collection deals with the anger and aggression women develop from feeling objectified and vulnerable. Inspired at first by ordinary work wear materials, including denim and canvas, and the history of women wearing denim and menswear, her collection developed into an exploration of vulnerability and defensiveness. By using bleach and wax to manipulate canvas, denim, burlap and leather, as well as altering surfaces by braiding and weaving, she explores how garments can create a sense of security or exposure. Through material and form, McMahon investigates how garments can enable or deny protection to the wearer.
