Humanities

MICA's liberal arts core requirement focuses less on teaching a generic "canon" of knowledge, and more on providing students with the critical thinking, analytical, and research skills they need for lifelong learning. Coursework in this area has been carefully crafted to complement, deepen, and enrich the studio practice of each MICA student, and also allows them to develop a conceptual and critical framework for artistic inquiry.

Students take 15 credits (five courses) in art history, including two required courses in their freshman and sophomore year and three electives of their own choosing. An additional 27 credits of core courses in language, literature, and culture are required, and students can tailor their program these courses to meet their particular needs and interests.

MICA also offers a minors program with five fields of study: literary studies, creative writing, gender studies, culture and politics, and critical theory.
