SCHEDULE INCLUDES -- Before Care 8:00 - 9:30 am; Morning Course: Art Inspired by Nature 9:30 am - 12 noon; Supervised Lunch 12 noon - 1:00 pm; Afternoon Course: The World Around Me 1:00 - 3:30 pm; After Care 3:30 - 6:00 pm. ART INSPIRED BY NATURE: Budding artists will look at the natural world around them as inspiration for creating their art. Exploration of famous artists and excursions around the campus provide opportunities for students to directly study different natural forms for use in creating their own compositions. This course spans a wide range of art processes, such as drawing from nature, sculpting nature-inspired forms, using natural materials for mixed media collage, and recording changes in nature. THE WORLD AROUND ME: This course offers the child a variety of exciting art experiences based upon explorations of his/her immediate world. Children develop confidence as learners and expand their curiosity about the world, while developing fine and gross motor skills as well as a visual vocabulary to express what they see. An open, playful environment allows students to experience a variety of media, while exploring line, shape, color, & texture to represent ideas & feelings through art.

SCHEDULE INCLUDES -- Before Care 8:00 - 9:30 am; Morning Course: Every Picture Tells a Story 9:30 am - 12 noon; Supervised Lunch 12 noon - 1:00 pm; Afternoon Course: Sculpting Techniques 1:00 - 3:30 pm; After Care 3:30 - 6:00 pm. EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY: Draws upon the natural tendency to tell colorful and elaborate stories. Using childrens literature and picture books as rich sources of imagery and story lines, students weave their own stories individually and in collaboration with peers. Students examine the work of artist-illustrators such as Chris VanAllsburg, David Wiesner, Maurice Sendak, and Eric Carle to see how they create exciting imagery in telling their stories. Large-scale drawings, booklets, varied paper surfaces/techniques, and story performances are just a few of the creative ways stories will be recorded and passed on.

SCHEDULE INCLUDES -- Before Care 8:00 - 9:30 am; Morning Course: Drawing Workshop for Middle School 9:30 am - 12 noon; Supervised Lunch 12 noon - 1:00 pm; Afternoon Course: Painting Workshop for Middle School 1:00 - 3:30 pm; After Care 3:30 - 6:00 pm. DRAWING WORKSHOP FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL: Fast-paced drawing course engages students in a variety of short and sustained studies intended to develop drawing skills and abilities. Different approaches, tools, materials, and techniques are presented and explored using a diverse range of drawing media, from pen and pencil to color explorations in pastel and paint. Students create drawings from observation, imagination, and in response to the art of master artists and their peers. Written reflection, self-assessment, and ability to participate in group critiques are key components of this course. PAINTING WORKSHOP FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL: For the student who loves to paint, this course is designed to help students refine their skills in observing color, making purposeful choices about color, and painting from life. Students will experiment with acrylics, temperas and watercolors as they learn to mix cohesive color palettes and apply both realistic and expressive color to their pieces. Works from past and contemporary artists will be used to emphasize the incredible diversity of styles and expressiveness that can be achieved with color.

SCHEDULE INCLUDES -- Before Care 8:00 - 9:30 am; Morning Course: Portfolio Prep Studio I: 9:30 am - 12 noon; Supervised Lunch 12 noon - 1:00 pm; Afternoon Course: Portfolio Prep Studio II: 1:00 - 3:30 pm; After Care 3:30 - 6:00 pm. PORTFOLIO PREP STUDIO 1 AND 2: Set up like a college studio course, this all-day studio workshop begins with a review of students’ current interests, with discussion about student’s aspirations for growing in specific artistic areas. Work is primarily 2-dimensional and spans a wide range of both wet and dry media, from pencil and charcoal to paint. This course emphasizes skills development and development of the creative thought process. Students keep a reflective journal and sketchbook as they identify areas to strengthen in their artwork. Beginning with a series of studies and exercises in the morning, students also work independently with the instructor to develop and plan for tailored art problems which they then explore and develop in the afternoons.
