Matt Barr '17

MA Social Design

Class of 2017

Matt was born and raised in Wisconsin and graduated from Marquette University with a double major in Supply Chain Management and Entrepreneurship. During his undergraduate studies, he became fascinated with the field of social innovation. The intersection of business and sustainable social impact led him to Ashoka, a global nonprofit which supports the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs. There, he led efforts to measure the organization's impact, develop new partnerships, and facilitate shared value collaborations between Fortune 500 executives and social entrepreneurs around the globe. While working at Ashoka, Matt sought out ways to develop his own ability to empathize with others and wanted dig deeper into complex citizen sector problems. This led him to the MA in Social Design (MASD) at MICA, where his thesis work focused on understanding and supporting efforts to reduce the number of vacant homes in Baltimore.

Today, Matt works as a Federal Strategy Consultant at Monitor Deloitte where he is motivated by the possibilities of bringing a human-centered design approach to the federal government, and by doing so, affect change at a significant scale.
