Catherine Akins

Class of 2013

Catherine continues experimenting with her own Thai peanut sauce recipe, taking photographs of lost pet flyers, and dreaming of being an olympic bronze medalist in figure skating. For now, she is enjoying her time in Baltimore, researching social and community art practices, contemporary dance, graphic novels, show posters, and fanatic culture.

In 2013, Catherine accepted a position at City Arts located in Station North Art & Entertainment District as Resident Service Coordinator/Gallery Manager. Akins will facilitate programs relevant to the residents and support the efforts of Gallery CA, a space devoted to showcasing local, national, and international artists.

Stories inForm from the Baltimore American Indian Center focuses on contemporary forms of storytelling methods including performance, documentaries, graphic novels and collective publications. Collective publications are often created collaboratively and shared in printed form. For example, a newsletter or a community cookbook are both made by several members of the community to inform the larger public.
