Posted 01.21.10 by MICA Media Relations

BALTIMORE--Visionary artist Alex Grey, with his wife Allyson, will be live painting at Baltimore's second annual Visionary Solstice Gathering, Saturday February 20 (rescheduled from Dec. 19) at Sonar.

The Gathering, featuring two hours of live painting by the artists to the psychedelic rock music of Telesma, will encompass three rooms of visual performances including live body painting and aerial contortionists. Also check out the ultra-violet/black light performance art of Archedream for Humankind with music by Neil Kurland aka DJ Knowledge. Music will be the backdrop of the visual event, with C.I.A. and See-I performing, as well as several other national and local bands.

Alex Grey is a visionary artist recognized for his "Sacred Mirrors" collection and has been featured in projects by Tool, The Beastie Boys and Nirvana. His paintings take "viewers on a journey toward their own divine nature by examining, in detail, the body, mind and spirit."

General admission tickets to the Visionary Solstice Gathering are $30; VIP tickets are $50 and include early 7 p.m. admission to Alex Grey's spoken word performance and access to bar service during his painting.

Sonar is located at 407 E. Saratoga St. For more information, visit the Visionary Solstice Web site here.
