Library Summer Hours and Lower Level Closure

Changes to the Decker Library during Summer 2017

Posted 05.05.17

Image and text "Decker Summer Hours, May 8 - May 21: Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri: 8.30-4.30p Wed: 1-4.30p Sat/Sun: Closed"

Starting May 8 and continuing through the summer, the Decker Library's lower level will be closed to users. This closure will allow staff to rearrange collections and update spaces to better serve the campus. Library staff are loath to restrict direct access to our collections but, given the nature of the work, we must do so for the safety of our users.

Material will still be available for check out.
Users may place items on hold by requesting them through their accounts in the library catalog. If you are unable or unsure of how to do this, please visit the Circulation Desk and staff will happily correct any account errors and guide you through the process.

Requested items will be pulled several times a day but material will not be available on-demand at the service desk so please request items online in advance.

To prevent any deficiency in service, the library will also:

  • Gladly come to classes for information literacy related instruction or find another appropriate space on campus.
  • Devote the range of shelving on the first floor to be a mini-Decker, with requests from students, staff and faculty about subjects they may want to see.
  • Provide on-call help for reference questions.
  • Host pop-up library events that showcase our materials.
  • Accommodate additional unanticipated workarounds with users who need us on a case-by-case basis.
  • Post live updates on our progress via social media.

We are aware that the closure of lower level will be disruptive, yet we are excited by the needed and impactful changes that will make the library a much easier place to use.
