24-hour building access starts April 17
Here is some helpful information on the last few weeks of the Spring 2011 semester at MICA. Take care of yourself in these last few weeks of the semester!
Because we know that students are working around the clock to get ready for crits and finals, all academic buildings (except Bunting, Main Building, and 1515) will offer access 24 hours a day beginning Sunday, April 17 and continuing through Monday evening, May 9 at 11:00 pm. Bunting, Main and 1515 will continue to operate on the same academic year schedule.
Remember that after Bunting closes each night the following late-night computer labs are available for all MICA students for general writing assignments: Meyerhoff House First Floor Lounge, Commons Gatehouse 2nd floor, and the 3rd Floor Studio Lab in The Gateway.
Student Academic Building Cleanout (Including Junior Studios) for the Safety of Student Artwork
During the week of May 2-6, each student must remove all of their artwork from classrooms at the end of each critique for that class. Any artwork or supplies left in classrooms, painting racks, lockers, tops of lockers or other cabinets after 3:00pm on Friday, May 6 will be disposed of. Permission from departments or instructors to leave artwork or supplies over the summer is not valid.
The end of the semester is an exhausting and exciting time but please remember students are responsible for removing or placing in a proper trash receptacle all artwork, debris, wanted and unwanted materials from their studios. Studio furniture should be left in an orderly fashion within the studio. Also, please do not forgot to remove your personal items left in the common lounges, including food items left in the refrigerators.
Artwork left in the buildings after May 6 must be only for the Commencement Exhibition and must be clearly marked.
Juniors must move out of independent studios by 4pm, Tuesday, May 10.
Seniors – Information On Commencement Exhibition Preparation & Building Hours
All Seniors must vacate their studios in the Studio Center by 4:00 pm the Tuesday after Commencement, which is Tuesday, May 17th.
From Tuesday May 10th through Friday May 13th, all academic buildings will be open from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm.
The print lab will be closed on the weekend of May 7 & 8. From May 9 to 13th, the Print Lab will be open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm for Commencement Exhibition Printing.
From Saturday, May 14th through Monday, May 16th, buildings will be open from 8:00am to 7:00 pm (except Brown Center 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and Studio Center 8:00 am to 11:00 pm).
Residential students, please also review important move-out instructions online.
For Students living Off-campus in the Neighborhood
As you move out of your off-campus apartment, please respect your neighbors in Bolton Hill who live here all year round. Trash should be placed in trash bags using your apartment’s designated trash cans which must be covered; plan ahead as needed to use several weeks of trash pick-up – Baltimore City is not allowing trash bags to be put out on sidewalks or alleys that aren’t in trashcans or don’t fit properly in trashcans allowing the tops to be on. Also, please take full use of the MICA Swap and Drop (see below) to donate furniture, supplies, etc to Goodwill.
If you have large items to dispose of that are not suitable to be donated to Goodwill please either:
- Use the dumpsters in Commons (recycling dumpster and land-fill dumpster), behind Meyerhoff on Mosher street (land-fill dumpster only) and Gateway (recycling dumpster and land-fill dumpster, near the Firehouse side) OR
- Contact Midtown Benefits District of Baltimore to arrange bulk trash pick-up by clicking on this link and providing the necessary information: http://midtowncommunity.org/request.cfm OR
- Take your items to a nearby city dump. The closest city dump is at Sisson and 28th Street. More info online...
Please do not leave large amounts of trash or other items on the sidewalk for your neighbors to manage; you or your landlord could also face fines based on Baltimore’s city law!
Swap n’ Drop
As the semester winds down you may start to think about moving out. Over the semester as stuff piles up, what better way to reduce the clutter than attend Swap 'n Drop on Saturday, May, 7th in the Meyerhoff lobby and Commons Gatehouse. Students can donate gently used items to be re-used by another MICA student. All remaining items will be donated to charity. Be on the lookout for more information.
Meal hours will remain the same through finals – last meal will be Brunch on Tuesday, May 10th.
The Shuttle will run from 5 pm through 7 am beginning April 17 and continuing through May 9. Beginning May 9 through Commencement, shuttles will only run until midnight.
