Sheri Simons is based in Chico, CA where she is an art professor at California State University, Chico. She has worked in wood, sound, and movement and is interested in sculpture as an instrument, broadly defined as something which aids in or causes an action. Simons received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. Her public commissions include the Sacramento Central Library, the Carmichael Library in Sacramento and Juvenile Court Area of the Kent County Justice Center through the Seattle Arts Commission. Simons has had solo and group exhibitions at art institutions across the country including the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Craft and Folk Art Museum in San Francisco, the Detroit Institute of Art, the University of Alaska Museum, and the Alaska State Museum among many others.
