Two recent MICA alumnae have been invited to participate in the 2017 Venice Biennale, one of most influential arts exhibitions in the world. Established over 120 years ago, today the Venice Biennale has an attendance of over 500,000 visitors.
Sara Al Haddad '16, a brand new graduate of the Rinehart School of Sculpture, will be one of five artists representing the United Arab Emirates. Her work, featured in the exhibition, "Rock, Paper, Scissors: Positions in Play," will explore the function of play within artistic practice.
Work from photography alumna Anna Friemoth '12 will be featured in "Personal Structures: Time Space Existence" at the European Cultural Center. Since graduating, her work has been highlighted in Beautiful/Decay, TIME, The New York Times and Vice. She recently had a solo show at Gallery 151 in New York City. "MICA taught me to look at the world through different perspectives and to channel it through my own work," Friemoth said.
