Two MICA-based projects have won top honors in Print magazine's annual design contest for the East region. The graduate programs catalog, designed by Mike Weikert '06, was honored, also giving credit to several MICA alumni for photography. Weikert, the director of MICA's Center for Design Practice (CDP), was also called out for the CDP's graphic identity and promotional pieces for Hero, an organization dedicated to ending substandard housing in Alabama. He, along with graphic design faculty members Bernard Canniffe and Ryan Clifford, led students Luke Williams, Alex Pines, Hayley Griffen and Brian McDonough on the project.
"In Baltimore you can make a real, tangible impact through your work. ... There is a sense that your voice as a designer is heard, forcing you to be responsible and deliberate about the kind of work you do," said Weikert, who is launching an M.A. in Social Design program in fall 2011.
