The Society of Illustrators has selected 15 MICA students for their 2014 Student Scholarship Competition. Students from several colleges and universities across the United States competed to exhibit their work in the Museum of American Illustration at the Society of Illustrators in New York.
Nineteen pieces from MICA were granted entry and will be on display from Wednesday May 7- Saturday May 31 at the museum. Students Xanthe Bouma '15 (illustration) and Leonard Peng '14 (illustration) will both receive a scholarship award based on their artworks, each receiving a $1,000 cash prize at the opening reception on Friday, May 9. Scholarships are offered to 25 student artists whose creations are viewed among the best in the competition.
The Student Scholarship Competition started in 1981 where over 8,700 entries are submitted for the competition. The select few hundred student participants who are chosen each year by a jury of professionals, including illustrators and art directors, become featured in the exhibition.
