Guest of Cindy Sherman

Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and the Maryland Film Festival present a free screening of Guest of Cindy Sherman (2008) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7 in Falvey Hall, Brown Center, 1301 Mount Royal Ave.

Directed by Tom Donahue and Paul Hasegawa-Overacker, this feature documentary examines the celebrity-studded New York art world and the sometimes fragile male ego.

In the 1990s, Hasegawa-Overacker became a fixture of the New York art scene with his public access show, GalleryBeat, for which he gained unprecedented access to press-shy art superstar, Cindy Sherman. Hasegawa-Overacker developed a romantic relationship with the artist. Their bliss was short-lived, however, as the interviewer found himself wrestling with the loss of identity that came from being the interviewee's "plus one" at art openings and dinners.

Filmed over the course of 15 years, Guest of Cindy Sherman features interviews with Roberta Smith, Ingrid Sischy, Robert Longo, Carol Kane, David Furnish, Danny DeVito, Molly Ringwald, Eric Fischl, and Baltimore's own John Waters.

October screenings are free to all as part of Free Fall Baltimore. Seats will be available first-come, first-served.
