This past fall, President Fred Lazarus IV took a trip to the buzzing city of Seoul, Korea, reinforcing MICA's international reputation.
"The College has had a long history of having wonderful Korean students come for undergraduate and graduate education," Lazarus said. "I was really looking forward to having a chance to meet with our alumni in Seoul before I retired," he continued.
Charlie Hahn '07 (Digital Arts), who created the Korean Alumni Association, and Jenny Robinson '11 (general fine arts) were instrumental in coordinating a reception featuring Lazarus for alumni and parents, in addition to local academic leadership and art community members.
With assistance from Hahn, Lazarus also met with leadership from universities in Korea.
"The result of those conversations was renewed friendships with individuals the college has known and I have worked with before, and ideas for expanding relationships and new kinds of programs," Lazarus explained.
Ultimately, Lazarus feels his journey of more than 6,900 miles showcases the importance of partnerships and continued collaboration within the art and design world and the crucial lessons that can be learned from people across the globe.
