Painter, teacher was one of 25 honored

Jane Irish '77 (painting) won a 2009 Painters & Sculptors Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation. The grant program was established in 1993 to assist individual artists; Irish is one of 25 recipients this year, each receiving $25,000. The grants are given to acknowledge painters and sculptors creating work of exceptional quality.
After earning her B.F.A. from MICA in 1977, Irish went on to earn her M.F.A. from Queens College in New York in 1980. Currently based out of Philadelphia, she is the M.F.A. program coordinator for the design department at University of Pennsylvania. She is represented by the Locks Gallery in Philadelphia, and her artwork is in several permanent collections, including the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
