Main Building turns 100

100 years ago this month, on November 23, 1908, the College marked the completion of its Main Building with a public dedication attended by some 1,500 students, alumni, parents, faculty, trustees, elected officials and visitors who had assembled to celebrate MICA's elegant new home and honor the people who had made it possible. It was a major turning point for the college which four years earlier had lost its Center Market building and all its contents in Baltimore 's Great Fire.
To mark this monumental moment in our history, Kathy Cowan has put together a wonderful exhibit of items from our archives now on display in Decker Library. I encourage everyone to stop by and take a look at the photographs, documents and artifacts that tell the story of this remarkable building.
The anniversary is an opportunity to renew our appreciation of MICA's proud history and the people, like you, whose commitment and vision made it the great institution it is today.
Please join us in the court of the Main Building at 3:30 pm on Monday, November 24 for some birthday cake.
