MICA Celebrates Ellen Lupton

Co-director of Graphic Design MFA Featured in the Press

Posted

Ellen Lupton, co-director of MICA's Graphic Design MFA also serves as the senior curator of contemporary design at the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. Lupton was recently featured in the New York Times article "Beauty -- Cooper Hewitt's Triennial", which is on view from February 12, 2016 through August 12, 2016. The event's title was selected by Lupton and assistant curator Andrea Lipps as a way to emphasize the importance of beauty in design, but also to question the definition of beauty. Lupton explains in the article, "We wanted to see beauty as not just this young and perfect thing, but beauty as time and endurance and change." The triennial features the work of 63 designers from around the world, and will host a series of lectures and events throughout months it is on view. Read the full article here.

Lupton will also be featured in the KnowHER Design Talks on March 3, 2016 in Providence, Rhode Island. The lecture series will be featuring women who are forerunners in the design industry today throughout the month of March. This event is sponsored by AIGA Rhode Island, and will feature a new event each Thursday this March. See the profile on Ellen Lupton in the event's schedule here.
