While designers and illustrators are in business to create graphics, they are also in business to do business. Because they often prefer to solve client problems and create award-winning images, they may be short-changing themselves by not investing time to develop entrepreneurial skills. Designers and illustrators can add profit to their artistic successes by leveraging their creativity to find work, manage their business affairs, protect their work, and maximize their earning power. Professional practices, ethical guidelines, and tips on evaluating an artist's potential are topics covered in this course. The instructor will examine design businesses from startup to expansion, from freelance to major corporate structures. Other topics covered include contracts, copyrights, proposals, staff salaries, and client payment strategies.
This free workshop is open to advanced students about to enter the marketplace and working professionals who are intent on progressing in their careers.
Please contact the Division of Continuing Studies at 410-225-2219 or firstname.lastname@example.org for location information and registration.
