In 2008-09, the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Fund established the Baker Artist Awards to recognize Baltimore artists and inspire local and international audiences to support their work. The organization created the "b-grant" program in 2010 to promote the quality, diversity and depth of the region's arts scene. The $1,000 grants recognize emerging artists, and established artists exploring new directions. Nine artists are selected annually by discipline specific judges from nominations from the Baker Artist Award website.
Among the "b-grant" winners were Marcia Wolfson Ray '75 '95, student Tiffany Jones, former faculty member Brent Crothers ‘89'03 and Miranda Pfeiffer '11. Pfeiffer was also recognized with a Nancy Haragan Award, an honor of $500 given annually to a b-grant winner in honor of Nancy Haragan for her years of creative service to Baltimore's arts sector.
