Here is some helpful information on the last few weeks of the Spring 2009 semester at MICA. Residential students, please also review important move-out instructions by visiting Closing Information on the ResLife website.
We wish all students a wonderful Summer!
Academic Building Access
Because we know that students are working around the clock to get ready for crits and finals, all academic buildings (except Bunting) will offer access 24 hours a day beginning Sunday, April 26 and continuing through Monday evening, May 11 at 11:00 pm. Bunting will continue to operate on a 7:00 am to 11:00 pm schedule.
Please note that although Main Building is extending its building hours, the Photo Lab hours will remain the same.
Please remember when the Bunting Center is closed, the College has designated Brown 204 (a PC lab) and Brown 304 (a Mac lab) as the labs available to students.
Student Academic Building Cleanout (Including Junior Studios) for the Safety of Student Artwork
During the week of May 4-8, each student must remove all of their artwork from classrooms at the end of each critique for that class. Any artwork or supplies left in classrooms, painting racks, lockers, tops of lockers or other cabinets after 3:00pm on Friday, May 8 will be disposed of. Permission from departments or instructors to leave artwork or supplies over the summer is not valid.
Artwork left in the buildings after May 8 must be only for the Commencement Exhibition and must be clearly marked.
Juniors must move out of independent studios by 4pm, Tuesday, May 12.

For Students living Off-campus in the Neighborhood
As you move out of your off-campus apartment, please respect your neighbors in Bolton Hill who live here all year round. Trash should be placed in trash bags using your apartment's designated trash cans which must be covered; plan ahead as needed to use several weeks of trash pick-up - Baltimore City is not allowing trash bags to be put out on sidewalks or alleys that aren't in trashcans or don't fit properly in trashcans allowing the tops to be on. Also, please take full use of the MICA Swap and Drop (see below) to donate furniture, supplies, etc to Goodwill.
If you have large items to dispose of that are not suitable to be donated to Goodwill please:
- Use the dumpsters in Commons (recycling dumpster and land-fill dumpster), behind Meyerhoff on Mosher street (land-fill dumpster only) and Gateway (recycling dumpster and land-fill dumpster, near the Firehouse side) OR
- Contact Midtown Benefits District of Baltimore to arrange bulk trash pick-up by clicking on this link and providing the necessary information: http://midtowncommunity.org/request.cfm. OR Take your items to a nearby city dump. The closest city dump is at Sisson and 28th Street. Here is a link with additional information: http://www.ci.baltimore.md.us/government/dpw/waste.html#dump
- Please do not leave large amounts of trash or other items on the sidewalk for your neighbors to manage; you or your landlord could also face fines based on Baltimore's new city law!
Recycle Your Possessions at Move-Out or Trade With Friends!
This is your chance to get rid of items that you no longer use but are still in good condition. Please don't throw them away, recycle and reuse them! Our Swap Meet will take place on May 9th in the Meyerhoff Lobby (for Meyerhoff residents and off-campus residents) and the Commons Lawn (for Commons and Gateway residents and off-campus residents) from 8am till 6pm. We will be collecting items (see the list below) from our campus community to donate to Goodwill, a charitable organization. As you are turning in your items to donate, you are more than welcome to take what you like. For non-reusable items we encourage you to utilize the dumpsters for recycling and discarding your trash.
What we will take (in good/useable condition only please):
- Shoes and accessories
- Purses and bags
- Art supplies/work
- Area Rugs
- Small Kitchen Appliances (working only)
- Text Books
- DVDs/VHS Videos
- Small home electronics (working)
- Non-perishable food items that have not been opened
- Cleaning supplies (brooms, dustpans, cleaning solutions, etc)
What we will not take:
- Large appliances
- Any non-working appliances
- Dirty clothing
- Fish Tanks
- Magazines and Newspapers (please recycle them!)
- Any hazardous materials (including extremely toxic art supplies)
