Works on view in the Library from the Special Collections, April 12-May 2, 2012
Posted 04.26.12 by Rachel Beckman '11
Now on display at the Decker Library are 22 books from the Cage that are begging to be judged on their covers.
Books in Boxes highlights pieces from the library's Special Collections that come to life in three dimensions. From limited edition artists' books to commercial publications, each of these book-box combos gets major points for presentation.
Boxes can serve functional and practical purposes; they provide protection, or else they may hold together many elements in a set. But they can also transform a book when a box becomes an integral part of the whole object, asking us to question the nature of the book and the space where book meets sculpture.
The show runs in both the upstairs and downstairs museum cases until May 2.
You may view materials from the museum cases as well as additional artists' books by visiting the Reference desk. Please visit our online Book Arts Catalog to see what other unique books the library has to offer.
The next exhibition will be selections of student artists' books from Photography Faculty member Laurie Snyder. The show will be up May 3 and will run through June 15.
Check out the new Library Exhibits section on the Decker Library website, where Students, Faculty and Staff will find our updated policies, information on how to reserve the museum cases for an exhibition, a calendar of recent and up and coming shows, as well as an overview of the current exhibition.
