Invited: Anniversary List

Invited: Celebration Station
Sunday, Oct. 21-Sunday, Nov. 11
MICA's inaugural M.F.A. in Curatorial Practice class invites you to join them in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Station North Arts & Entertainment District by presenting Invited, a two-part exhibition. The exhibition series will feature site-specific artworks in 10 area businesses as well as a community inspired and celebratory-themed gallery show in MICA's newly renovated Graduate Studio Center Sheila & Richard Riggs Gallery. The work by MICA's M.F.A. in Curatorial Practice program highlights the College's active role in community revitalization, ensuring that all businesses and residents in nearby Station North-one of the nation's first state-endorsed Arts & Entertainment Districts-embrace and are engaged with the unique artistic nature of the district. Invited is presented by the 10 inaugural candidates in MICA's M.F.A. in Curatorial Practice program, under the guidance of faculty members Jeffry Cudlin and Gerald Ross, who also serves as the College's director of exhibitions.
Designed to forge connections among art, artists and the community, the graduate program's collaborative and individual curatorial projects allow students to explore new methods of exhibition presentation- thinking outside of traditional models and training to create relevant, timely and accessible exhibitions for their audiences. The graduate program is the first M.F.A. in Curatorial Practice in the United States and benefits from being shaped by the work of George Ciscle, MICA's curator-in-residence and creator of the College's groundbreaking Exhibition Development Seminar.
MICA's Graduate Studio Center, a century-old former JoS. A. Bank factory, has served as a home for the College's graduate students and an anchor to Station North for more than a decade. The Studio Center, which will have completed a $20 million renovation by this fall, is part of an ongoing collaboration with the Central Baltimore Partnership to revitalize the area.
A schedule of Invited public events will be released closer to the opening, and a catalog designed by MICA alumni-led DEUXO Studio is scheduled to be available during Invited: Celebration Station.
Invited is free and open to the public. The Graduate Studio Center gallery hours are Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays, noon-5 p.m. The Graduate Studio Center galleries are closed on major holidays.
Invited is made possible partially through the support of MICA's Office of Community Engagement, Station North Arts & Entertainment, Inc., and Friends of Curatorial Practice.
