MICA P.L.A.C.E. provides a unique experience where students will benefit from programs intended to empower them to be catalysts for change through the MFA in Community Arts program. While MFACA classes are held in this historic building, forming an intellectual and artistic hub for urban community studies, it is also a way for MFACA students to integrate with other graduate students pursuing art and design education through varying degree programs within MICA. This program does a lot of work and service with the residents and youth of its surrounding neighborhood.
The first and second floors at MICA P.L.A.C.E. are used for academic purposes, community events, and as gallery space. The third floor is where student apartments are located, each with two bedrooms, full kitchen, bathroom, and a spacious living area. Only residents are provided access to the third floor, providing the option for privacy from the rest of the building. The fourth floor houses additional apartments and studio spaces. These apartments do not come furnished. A plan for transportation is necessary, as MICA P.L.A.C.E. is located about fifteen minutes from the main campus. The cost per student to live in a Summer housing and winter break housing options are also available.
