William Minifie

Principal

1852-1854
Principal William Minifie implemented a rigorous tiered course system, beginning with pencil sketching and then advancing to geometrical drawing, machine drawing, architectural classes, engineering classes and artistic classes. An architect and builder, he was a national leader in the effort to make art a regular part of the educational process. An author of several books, his Textbook of Geometrical Drawing for the Use of Mechanics and Schools was called the best work on the subject by Scientific American.
