Application Requirements for MFA Programs

MICA offers 10 unique Master of Fine Arts programs with foci in wide varieties of media and practice. Applicants are encouraged to apply to multiple programs, but will need to prepare a separate application for each. Program-specific application requirements can be found using the links on the left sidebar. General requirements and guidelines are listed below.

General Application Procedures

Although each MFA program has specific portfolio and written requirements, a complete application to any MICA program will include the following:

Application Fee

An application fee is assessed on the first application at the submission stage in SlideRoom. Subsequent applications require a processing fee, but not a full application fee.

Academic Documents & Transcripts

Applicants to all programs must send sealed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. The Office of Graduate Admission recommends gathering all transcripts in institution-issued envelopes and submitting them in a single parcel to ensure their arrival and timely processing. Send all transcripts to:

Office of Graduate Admission

Fred Lazarus IV Graduate Studio Center

131 West North Avenue

Baltimore, MD 21202

Letters of Reference

Applicants to all MFA programs must include 3 letters of reference with their application. Letters are collected online, via the SlideRoom application system. Please note that applicants do not need to wait for references to be collected before submitting the application. References may arrive after the application has been submitted.

Program-Specific Application Procedures

Before starting the application process, candidates are encouraged to review the program-specific requirements by following the links in the left sidebar of this page. If relevant, candidates are encouraged to apply to multiple programs. Please note that a separate application is required for each program.

Additional Requirements for International Students

Please note that international students may be required to submit additional application materials to be considered for admission. Visit the Information for International Graduate Applicants to get more information.
