Incoming and returning MICA students who would like to request housing accommodations due to a medical condition or disability must fill out an application for housing with the office of Residence Life as well as register with the Learning Resource Center. Students must visit the LRC every time they wish to be considered for housing accommodations, well in advance of the housing lottery process. The provision or continuation of housing accommodations is not automatic, and the availability of on-campus housing in a given semester may be limited.
When registering with the LRC, the student must: (1) Provide appropriate documentation in compliance with Section 504/ADA protocol, and (2) Complete an LRC registration form well in advance of Residence Life deadlines. Students who provide acceptable documentation on their first visit need not provide it again, but they must register with the LRC every time they wish to be considered for accommodations. The LRC website contains Documentation Guidelines for categories of disability support as well as complete contact information to schedule an appointment or request a Registration form.
LRC staff will evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis. Documentation presented in support of a housing request should contain (1) a clear assessment of the condition or need that is the basis of the request; (2) a clear description of the required housing configuration; (3) an explanation of how the request relates to the impact of the condition; and (4) an indication of the level of need for the recommended configuration (and the consequence of not receiving).
At the conclusion of its review, the LRC will provide the office of Residence Life with a recommendation. If the criteria are met, Residence Life will determine the specific housing assignment, and notify the student of his/her room assignment. All information related to the accommodations will be kept confidential.
