The stationary tools in the Wood Shop include 3 band saws, 2 table saws, 2 disc sanders, belt sander, drill press, chop saw, jointer, planer, router table, and lathe. The MICA Wood Shop has a comprehensive selection of traditional hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary equipment.  This shop hosts classes in Interdisciplinary Sculpture, Environmental Design, and other departments. The Wood Shop is open to all MICA students. During the open shop hours the shop is staffed by a student technician who is there to ensure safety and assist students with projects.  Always check in with the tech when you arrive at the shop.

Portable power tools include drills, jig saws, routers (fixed-base, plunge, palm), circular saw, palm sanders, belt sanders, biscuit joiners, and pneumatic nailers/staplers.

Hand tools include hammers, hand saws, combination squares, measuring tapes, pliers, screwdrivers, clamps, chisels, Plexiglas cutter, and others.

Students must be trained to operate a tool before they are permitted to use it. No tools are allowed to leave the Wood Shop. No materials other than wood may be worked on the stationary tools. Only faculty, student technicians, and students who have gone through table saw training are permitted to use the table saws. Students must wear proper footwear and clothing whenever in the shop.
