Open Shop Hours - Spring 2016
The Model Shop is available to all students working on small-scale projects and is monitored by a trained student technician. The shop consists of stationary and portable power tools along with standard hand tools and laser cutter. The machines are typically smaller and have tighter tolerances than those in the Wood Shop and accomadates non-wood materials such as: cardboard, foam and acrylic.
Stationary tools include: 1" and 4" belt sander, 12" disc sander, spindle sander, band saw, scroll saw, and drill press.
Portable power tools include: drills, jig saw, palm sander, and Dremel.
Hand tools include: hammers, hand saws, combination squares, measuring tapes, pliers, screwdrivers, clamps, chisels and others.
Laser Cutter : The Mercury is a 30 Watt laser cutter this is good for etching and is capable of cutting materials up to 1/8". Files are sent to the laser cutter from Corel Draw.
Maximum cutting area: 25" x 18"
Largest size able to be fit in machine: 29" x 22"
Maximum height of material: 6 1/4"
Best case cutting depth: 3/16"

Due to time limitations and responsibilities monitoring both the laser cutting booth and shop, it is important that files are prepared properly and ready to print. If you are having difficulties please seek guidance from your faculty member or utilize lynda.com from our tutorials page.
