Barbara Baxter holds an M.A./A.B.D. in Fine Arts (Art History) from Harvard University and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Delaware. She has been an adjunct professor of Art History, Theory, and Criticism at MICA since 2006. Her graduate areas of specialization were Late Antique and Early Medieval art, and numismatics. She was a Graduate Fellow at the American Numismatic Society (ANS), Keeper of Coins at the Harvard University Art Museums, and Numismatist for the Sardis Expedition in Turkey. As guest curator for a special exhibition at the ANS, she authored the exhibition catalogue The Beaux-Arts Medal in America. More recently, she worked as a museum educator at the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Walters Art Museum. At MICA, she has taught Art Matters, Ancient Through Gothic, Modernism & After, and a seminar on Reliquaries.
