This seminar will introduce students to the basic design and production features of Adobe InDesign. InDesign remains the premier program for cross media publishing today. Students will gain working knowledge of this valuable layout and design program through class assignments and critiques. Topics include basic layout skills, formatting type, and graphics and color management for both print and web. Note: A basic knowledge of computers is required for all software classes. Students are required to bring a USB or flash drive to class.

The Web has changed how photography, sound, and video are delivered. This class illuminates how to deal with the ever changing environment of multimedia today. The content of this class is geared to all levels of photographer and will focus on the junction of still photography and other media. Students will learn when and how to shoot video and record audio with the camera. In class, students will examine the process needed to use and edit what has been captured. The class will go over equipment, DSLR video, and sound recording equipment. The class will critique the completed assignments together. Prerequisite: Students must have use of a digital camera with video and sound capabilities. Note: No class on March 19.

The poster offers a rich opportunity for a designer to create work that must be presented in a meaningful and visually interesting way. In this class, students work with both form and content as they ideate ways to create powerful messaging within the framework of a poster. Conceptual development and use of metaphor, symbolism and connotative communication is emphasized as well as form-making and typography. An overview of contemporary and historic poster design will be discussed. Note: All levels of design experience welcome but some knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is helpful.

This seminar offers and intensive look at the tools used in Adobe InDesign for creating digital design projects for iPad and other tablets. The transformation of a print magazine into a digital multipage interactive document will be studied and explained step by step. Good examples of print projects redesigned and living in the digital world will be explored. How the tools in the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite will help in that task will be explained and practiced in mini assignments. Note: A basic knowledge of InDesign is required. Students should bring a portable zip drive to class.
