Lawson
Oyekan builds from a truly global life and perspective: born in London in
1961, raised in Nigeria, he currently works in England and Denmark. Lawson
is fueled by a desire to understand and illuminate the human experience.
The sculptural "bodies" presented here include work created during
his residency at Maryland Institute College of Art, and earlier works.
In
constructing a new series of work reflective of his time in Baltimore, Lawson
collaborated with the students of MICA's Exhibition Development Seminar,
led by Curator-in-Residence George Ciscle. This collective journey opened
a dialog on "nature," and provided artist and students a chance
to contemplate and assemble from their internal and external realities.
